SharePoint is Microsoft's "Business Collaboration Platform for the Enterprise & the Web. It has portal, collaboration, Web content management and document management capabilties. With more than 130 million users, it's being widely adopted for a variety of purposes.
With the 2007 release, Microsoft first got serious about SharePoint's document managment capabilties. With the 2010 version, there are even more document management capabilties. Although SharePoint doesn't have any inherent document imaging, in many ways (but certainly not all) a scanned image can be managed like another electronic document. Because of this, we are seeing increasing interest in using SharePoint for document imaging.
Did I mention that in October 2009, Microsoft Corporate VP for SharePoint Jeff Teper estimated that there were 130 million SharePoint users? That's a lot of potential document mangement/document imaging users.
To help tap into this potential, we've launched this special section of our Web site focused on integrating SharePoint with document imaging technologies. We hope you find it worthwhile.
